There is no better place to travelers to understand a country than an event where it proudly celebrates its individuality and identity whether through music, food, dance, or rituals.
You need to experience KAAPSE KLOPSE!..... What is that??!?!
We still stay in Cape Town where the most famous festival is going on. One of the best of the world according to the wide references book Lonely Planet.
It takes place annually on January 2 and goes on for a month! Around 13.000 are participating to this event. Festivities include street parades with singing and dancing, costume competitions and marches through the streets. The troupes are judged on a variety of criteria, including costume, singing and dancing, runs each Saturday night.
The main parade begins at midday and attracts tens of thousands of spectators, so be sure to stake a place early.
Tips: Where the best spot to watch?
Grab your spot in the shade where Adderley turns into Wale – at the opening to the Company’s Garden and on the stairs of St George’s Cathedral. The crypt below the cathedral contains your closest coffee spot.
This is always my favorite topic about other countries, how they party! I thought Carnival was intense, and it's only for four days. I can;t imagine a straight month of partying, whew!
